At the end of the 1800s, Giuseppe Benanti, the grandfather of Dr. Giuseppe Benanti, started making wine on his father's old farm on the slopes of Mount Etna in Viagrande, Catania. In 1988, Giuseppe Benanti revived the family passion with a thorough study of the Etnean soils known for great vineyards. He also explored specific clones of native vines and new winemaking techniques to recreate ancient flavors using modern practices. After five years of study, they produced wines with unique tastes, preserving old flavors over time. Benanti Contrada Cavaliere Rosso has a pale ruby color. It has aromas of red fruit mixed with warming herbs and spices. The taste is dry, medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins and a long, harmonious finish.
This well-spiced red wine has hints of iron and tar alongside cherry and strawberry fruit. It is bright and tightly woven with a dense core of tannins that firm up the herb-laced finish. The wine has clear aromas of fresh flowers, oranges, black cherries, and blackberries. It is subtle and complex. Full-bodied yet not heavy, with solid and structured tannins. It is chewy and strong but still agile. Give it three or four years to develop fully, though it is already impressive.
